So there you are, standing in the aisle at the book store, trying to remember what books your friends suggested that you should read. Maybe you wrote them down on a piece of paper, maybe you use the Notes application to keep track, maybe you just try and remember.

Enter Next Read, an elegant, easy to use application for your iPhone or iPod Touch. Never leave home without having your book list right in your pocket.

FEATURES AT A GLANCE
• Fast Amazon based search lets you quickly search for books.
• Weighted scoring system lets you rank books by the value of suggestions.
• Recommendation sources are completely customizable, allowing you to tailor your own scoring system.
• Share lists with other Next Read users over WiFi or anyone else by sending them a list via email.
• Shake Search makes it easier to find books you might be interested in.
• Quick Add allows you to enter a book quickly right when you hear about it. The details can be refreshed later.
• Take notes on each book in your list.
• Browse Listmania lists that contain books in your lists.
• Clean, simple layout lets you get the facts fast.

With Next Read you can easily add and search for books when you hear about them, and then view your list when you are out shopping for books. Simple and fast.

When you hear about a book, search for it. Then select your source – where you heard about the book. Perhaps you heard about it from a friend, a family member, or a podcast. Your source selection weights, or scores, the book. Each recommendation type can be weighted individually, making the scoring system entirely customizable. I bet your Uncle Ron always recommends the best books ever – we’ll assign him a 5 – his recommendations will always float to the top.

Next Read is not just for books suggested to you. You can also keep all those books you have been checking out, organized, with Next Read’s convenient list features. Keep a list for a topic you are trying to learn more about, or a list for books that caught your eye at the store, whatever suits your needs. Lists can also be imported from public Amazon lists or even from a friend over WiFi. You can also email a list to a friend for ultimate flexibility.

If you are an avid reader who has been searching for a way to manage your book list, check out Next Read.

Which book will you read next?

PLEASE NOTE
This application searches the US version of Amazon for books. Entered search terms must be in English.

This application requires iPhone /iPod Touch Software version 2.2. Make sure you upgrade before attempting to install Next Read.

Now if only you could supply a way to create a library of all of the books you already have, in a quick and easy way, this would be the ultimate software. If you want help developing it it I would be happy to give you a hand.

This app is awesome. Took it to borders the other night and it made shopping a breeze. I love the review feature, you don’t even have to leave the app to read the amazon page. THAT ROCKS!!

  • mostman

Folks – we just released a new version that includes the ability to view your books by source. Make sure to update.

It’s odd how this app has more comments than freshness…

  • gdavies

I believe the folks at Square Wheel have somehow read my mind. This nifty little app does exactly what I want:

    1. I can store my books-to-read list on my phone.
    2. I can weight each book entry based on the trigger(s) that pushed it onto the list.
    3. I can customize the trigger (“recommendation”) list.
    4. I can adjust book scores in response to the ongoing stream of trigger events.
    5. I can sort the list by score, so my “must buy” entries float to the top.

Well done, and when will we see “Next Tool,” “Next Gadget,” “Next Vacation,” and so on?

I wish I could make this even more fresh than by one meager point because this app is EXCEPTIONAL! What a fantastic, simple way to manage my favorite hobby. Superb job, mostman — can’t wait to see what you come come up with next! There will be more, right? :)

  • rdangel

I cant tell you how many times this app has come in handy. I use it constantly to keep track of those book recommendations people are giving me as well as putting them right into amazon. Great little app..

  • lab

I’m constantly adding books to my Amazon wish list that I read about in magazines or newspapers or hear about on the radio but this seems much easier since it is simpler to access from my phone. Very cool.

Hello mostman! What can I say! When your hot your hot! (smile) This is a great program and even though I was giving your program an outstanding review, I was telling the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. I hope that others will take advantage of this jewel you have created. It is AWESOME brother!

    • ukiprincess

      Have you 'made it fresh'?

  • mostman

Thanks for the kind words macman. That’s the whole reason we wrote the application – we do the same thing!

Keep an eye out for upgrades – we will be adding some great things in the near future – including the ability to share your list with other nearby iPhone users. If you have any suggestions for future features, let us know.

For anyone looking for the app, for some reason the link here doesn’t bring you to the iTunes store (it just redirects here). Try this link:

    http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=299379727&mt=8

I’m not sure who to contact to get this fixed.

You can actually change it yourself. Just click on “Add An App” and then you can “Update an App”. Input the corrected link there, and then your good to go!

      • mostman

Excellent. All fixed. Thanks for the tip.

This is an outstanding program. I am an avid reader and I am always in both the Borders and Barnes and Nobles bookstores. On of the most frustrating things I use to do is forget to remember the name of a book I heard about on MPR or NPR and it frustrates the “hell out of me”. This program has been a real jewel for me. Try it and you will like it if your are a reader and want just-in-time and/or real time information.
