Nig, I just discovered Groove and its a pretty nice app to rediscover your music library! Much better than the iPod app! And it is based on Last.fm. Here's the link:http://www.freshapps.com/iphone-app-review-groove…

I am a Last.fm fan, and I live in Canada. I subscribe it on the internet as well. Guess what's the catch? We can't use tha app here. Very sad!

    • Nig

I'm in the same situation, no Last.fm in Canada! I use Groove, a nice little app that create mixes from your listening habits. Check it out!

I seems like more and more of these radio applications are popping up.

To reply to Go-Laith Pandora is a little limited however the features that were mentioned above are not all correct. Pandora allows you to get unlimited skips with a paid subscription.

My biggest issue with these apps are the lack of current music. A better mix of old and new music would be great. Slacker is better at that then Pandora.

Last.fm does have a better way of determining song selection through iTunes but the biggest thing for me is the mix of old and curren music.

I think http://www.appspatrol.com may have a review on these apps

    Hi Brandon,

    uh… hard to tell…
The main difference is that unlike Pandora you can use last.fm outside of the US which is why I can only talk about the Pandora features by second-hand experience ;)

Please correct me if this is not the status quo in the current version since i can't use Pandora from Germany.
    unlike Pandora:
    - you don't have a skip-this-track limitation
    - the recommended songs are based on the taste of other community members, not on similar music (melody, harmony, lyrics, orchestration, vocal character)
    - by using plug-ins you can use last.fm to “monitor” your software and hardware music-players (like iTunes, WMP, Winamp, iPod, iPhone, …)
    - last.fm does not need to do manual classifications in order to recommend a song
    - there is a lot of additional information about an artist (current tour calendar, bio, … )
    - the number of recommended songs might be smaller at last.fm if you use to have a VERY extraordinary taste (this problem is solving itself by the growing number of users)

For further information please read the article by Steve Krause “Pandora and Last.fm: Nature vs. Nurture in Music Recommenders” at http://www.stevekrause.org/steve_krause_blog/20…

    Kind Regards
    Sebastian

I love last.fm for the iPhone. For me it’s a great way to have all my music at my fingertips. How? Cos I have a pretty active profile on the host site and my library is full of what is on my iPod plus new stuff I discovered. The app is stable. The connection sometimes stalls when switching from edge to 3G but the music simply pauses then continues. Also great info resource on artists, events etc. Nice!
