iPhone App Review: Santafy MeDecember 13th, 2012 by dancemonkey
The holidays are upon us, so what better way to celebrate than to put a Santa hat on your dog? Santafy Me by Integrity Corporation is a fun photo app for holiday-izing your loved ones, be they human or otherwise.
The first thing that struck me about the app was the home screen. There’s nice holiday music playing against a background of Christmas tree ornaments, that sway when you tilt your phone. The real nice touch though is the “reflection” in the large central Christmas ball (it’s a diluted feed from the front-facing camera, but it looks amazing). The home screen of course has nothing to do with the actual functionality of the app, but it’s nice to see developers taking the extra time and care to give end users a fun experience.
The app itself is easy enough to sort out: take a picture or select one from an album, then start putting Christmas stuff on it. The free app comes with a selection of some basic things: Santa hat, reindeer ears, “Happy Holidays” banner, plus some others (the leg lamp from A Christmas Story is a nice touch). You can purchase other boxes of goodies for $0.99 each. Santafy Me also features the requisite ability to post to Facebook, Twitter, email, MMS, etc.
My only Christmas wish for the app was that it was a little easier to scale and rotate objects. It’s actually simple enough when they’re fairly large: pinch and spread your fingers to change size, spin the objects to… well, spin the objects. I noticed though when I was placing a top hat on a picture that featured my son off in the distance that you actually need to touch the object itself in order to scale and rotate it, which gets tricky once objects get to be about finger-sized. It would be nice to be able to use the entire screen real estate to pinch and rotate the selected object (then you could tap a different object to manipulate that, etc).
Altogether this app gets one of the highest seals of approval any app can: my wife downloaded it after seeing me play with it, and she doesn’t really download apps. Download Santafy Me and put a little free Christmas spirit in your holiday picture collection.
