iPhone App Review: GotoAID First Aid

iPhone App Review: GotoAID First Aid

December 19th, 2009 by zclark

Goto Aid is an app that may just save your life or the life of another person, dog or cat. Imagine swallowing a harmful chemical or meeting some one that is in distress and needs assistance. In most instances you would most likely call an ambulance and wait. With Goto Aid  you may be able to do more for that person or yourself while waiting. It may be the difference between life and death for a person in medical distress.

Goto Aid Pros:

Goto Aid has a very detailed approach to medical emergencies. It provides pictures of general areas of interest, such as “Cold Related” or “Poisons” to make the search, for the solution to a problem, that much easier to find. In the pictures detailing the step by step instructions for CPR the user will find that, while scrolling through the “Tips” section of the page, the picture and instructions remain at the top. This app also has individual sections dedicated to dogs and cats. This is a good little perk to an already great app. This app also gives you the ability to store In Case of Emergency or ICE info for you or your pet. This app has a ton of great features that will make the cost well worth the money spent.

Goto Aid Cons:

The controls change during the CPR instructions. After selecting the CPR button at the bottom of the screen the user must select the arrow in the middle of the screen to see the steps. Finally to scroll through the steps the user has to press the advancement arrows at the top of the screen. One place for advancing the page would improve the ease of use during a real emergency.

Over all I really liked this app. This is a good app to have for the person who has kids or who wants that extra help just in case of an emergency. I was impressed with how user friendly Goto Aid was.

Pros:

- Pictures that describe general areas of interest
- Pictures and instructions stay in place while the user scrolls through “tips”
- ICE capabilities
- Pet feature
- Too many extras to list.

Cons:

- Confusing commands during a real emergency

I give this app a 9/10 for being a truly useful utility that I would not be without.

Another useful app to have on hand is the CPR and Emergency First Aid app by RediVideos for iPhone and Blackberry. These are full video instructional apps demonstrating how to apply first aid and emergency techniques.
