If you want to make SkypeOut calls using your iPhone (vanilla iPhone, rather than jailbroken), this is a great application to do it with. If further updates add better integration with the addressbook, then this will be a solid application. It also supports all of the popular IM systems out there (i.e. MSN, Gmail, Yahoo, etc). Until Skype produces their own client for the iPhone, this is by far the best solution so far.

i use this thing DAILY for gMail chat, AIM chat, and SkypeOut calls – and i’ve had no problems whatsoever.
only thing i obviously don’t love is that i have to leave it open all the time if i don’t want to be signed out.. BUT, this isn’t fring’s fault. i’m dreaming of the day when Apple will add push support to amazing 3rd party apps like these, so i can have fring constantly taking care of all messaging/skyping duties without worrying about having it open.

If push is a big deal to you and you don’t mind paying a *serious* premium for that kind of feature, check out BeejiveIM. It’s expensive, but it does allow you to receive IMs while the app is closed through push support. Apart from that, Fring is a pretty good IM/Skype app. I myself use Nimbuzz because it has support for a landscape keyboard – if Fring had that, I’d probably switch back.
